Our History

Men Thayer County Bank is an independent community bank now in its fifth generation of family ownership. The bank was founded in 1874, just eleven years after President Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address during the Civil War. We are the oldest State Chartered Bank in the State of Nebraska. Our family came to Hebron to start a mill along the Little Blue River. Receivables from the grist buyers and payables to the farmers for their grain made a perfect match for banking. From this early beginning, our family and staff have roots deep in the community in which we make our living.

The positive work ethic of our farm culture on the plains of rural South Central Nebraska has built a successful history of serving our customers and their varied interests. In addition to serving our Nebraska community of Hebron, we followed our third generation banker west to Utah where we have also enjoyed helping customers reach their dreams of owning a piece of the spectacularly beautiful mountains in Southwestern Utah. In all places our mantra is: “Find Good People and Go Where They Go.” Dorothy

Bank Teller Our base operation is out of one facility on the historic red brick main street in Hebron. Hebron is located in the center part of our great Nation on the US Highway 81 Expressway just a few miles north of the Kansas border. The many miles of prairie to larger cities provide us the serenity and safety of a small community with old fashioned wholesome values. Today’s technology however, provides us with the ability to efficiently serve customers wherever they choose to reside. Our small, but seasoned staff, has the experience and knowledge to provide friendly and flexible assistance with our customer's desires for financial services.

We celebrated our 140th Year in Business in 2014! We thank our correspondent banking partners at Bankers Bank of the West for remembering! Staff with Cake
